Russell Branaghan is Associate Professor of Human Systems Engineering at Arizona State University, Visiting Professor of Human Factors Engineering at Northwestern University, and Visiting Scientist at Mayo Clinic. At ASU, Russ directs the User Experience Lab (X Lab), where he works with students to study ways to improve the interaction of people with complex products, including automotive systems and medical devices. His work at ASUhas been funded by National Science Foundation, Mayo Clinic, Veteran’s Health Administration, Federal Aviation Administration, Air Force Research Laboratory, and Motorola. Russ serves as Chair of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES) Product Design Technical Group, on the organizing committee of the HFES Healthcare Human Factors Conference, and the Advisory Board for Mayo Clinic’s Center for Innovation.
Prior to his academic career, Russ served as Executive Vice President of Research and Strategy at Fitch, Senior Vice President of User Experience at Lextant, Senior Human Factors Engineer at HP, and Advisory Human Factors Engineer at IBM. Russ was the Founding Editor of User Experience Magazine, has authored over 40 articles and one book.
Russ is Principal of Research Collective, a usability laboratory and user experience consultancy in Tempe, AZ. Research Collective’s clients include Hyundai, Waymo, Google, Ford, HP, Medtronic, Smith & Nephew, Becton Dickinson and many others.
